Iran Warns UK Over US Airbase Use for Attacks on Tehran

Iran has issued a stern warning to Britain, stating that any country involved in military aggression against Tehran must face the consequences. The Iranian Foreign Ministry declared on Thursday that Iran is determined to defend its national sovereignty and interests against foreign aggression. This statement comes after Iran condemned the British government's decision to permit U.S. military aircraft to use a British airbase for attacks on Iranian territory, calling the move a violation of the UN Charter.

Earlier reports indicated that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham authorized the U.S. to continue using a British airbase for what the U.S. termed "defensive" attacks against Iran. In response to Iran's warning, a UK government spokesperson asserted that the nation "stands ready 24/7 to defend itself." The spokesperson detailed the UK's readiness to protect against all forms of attack, emphasizing a layered air and missile defense approach involving Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force assets, in close cooperation with NATO allies.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) justified these actions as a response to Iran's alleged attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. This led to retaliatory strikes by Iran on U.S. military bases in the Middle East, prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to declare the ceasefire between the two nations null and void.
