Indonesian villagers suffer from limestone dust pollution, seek health checks

Residents in West Bandung Regency, Indonesia, sought free health examinations on Monday as they suffer from dust pollution generated by local limestone processing plants. The dust has led to skin ailments, including blisters and itching, as well as respiratory issues, with children being particularly affected.

Rina Agustina, a resident of Ciburuy Village, Padalarang District, described how her children developed itchy, blistering rashes and experienced coughing fits at night. She believes the symptoms are directly linked to the limestone dust, which has become more severe in recent years, especially during the dry season.

If my children now have spots on their skin and complain of itching. Their skin is blistering. And at night the children cough.

"The limestone dust has always been there, but it has gotten much worse in the last few years," Agustina stated. The health checks were conducted by four community health centers in the Padalarang and Cipatat areas, offering a crucial service to those impacted by the ongoing industrial pollution.
