Indonesian woman arrested for allegedly murdering husband to marry lover

A shocking case of premeditated murder has emerged in Banyumas, Central Java, Indonesia, where a 61-year-old woman, identified as IY, stands accused of killing her 67-year-old husband, EM. The motive, according to police, was her desire to marry her lover.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the couple's home in Arcawinangun village, East Purwokerto. EM was found with multiple bruises on his face and bleeding from his ears. Following the discovery, IY allegedly informed neighbors that her husband's motorcycle was missing, a claim police say was a ruse to suggest a robbery.

IY explained to the witnesses summoned to her house that one of the victim's motorcycles was missing. In fact, this was just a trick by the victim's wife to make it seem like a theft had occurred.

She reportedly urged neighbors not to report the death to the authorities. However, one neighbor alerted the police, who then launched an investigation. Reviewing local CCTV footage, investigators traced the stolen motorcycle to a hotel, where it was allegedly handed over by IY to the perpetrators of the murder. Police have identified accomplices and are continuing their investigation into the conspiracy.
