Indonesians Create 9 Million Custom Images Daily with Google's Gemini AI

Indonesians are generating almost nine million custom images every day through Google's AI model, Gemini, according to Sapna Chadha, Google's Vice President for Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier. She noted that one in three prompts in Indonesia are purely creative, making the country the largest generator of custom images in Southeast Asia.

Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026, released mid-July, highlights Indonesia as the most creative nation in the region for utilizing AI. This visual creativity is fueled by high mobile device usage, with 82% of Gemini prompts originating from smartphones. Additionally, nearly half of all prompts involve multimodal inputs like voice or images, moving beyond simple text commands.

Samuele Saini, Google Ads Solutions Director for Southeast Asia, explained that Gemini empowers individuals with creative ideas but lacking artistic skills to become creators. Since the launch of Nano Banana in August 2025, over 5 billion images have been created across Southeast Asia. Indonesia also shows a high rate of local language use, with 84% of prompts in the country submitted in Indonesian, following Vietnam and Thailand.

Gemini has been recognized as the top-performing language model for Southeast Asian languages by AI Singapore's SEA-HELM benchmark. Globally, Gemini serves over 900 million users in 230 countries and 70 languages. In Southeast Asia, active users of the Gemini app have more than doubled in the last 12 months, marking it as Google's fastest-growing app in the region.
