INEC adjusts campaign timeline for Osun gov poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the upcoming Osun State governorship election, a necessary measure following the recent rescheduling of the poll itself. Recall that on the 26th of February 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and adjusted the Osun State Governorship Election forward by one week from the 8th of August 2026 to the 15th.

As per the revised timetable, the Osun governorship election, initially slated for August 8, 2026, has been moved forward by one week to August 15, 2026. This shift directly impacts the deadline for political parties and candidates to engage in campaign activities. Consequently, the final day for campaigns in the state is now set for midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

As a result of this adjustment, the last day for political parties’ campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides that campaigns shall end 24 hours prior to election day.

This adjustment is in strict adherence to Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that campaigns must conclude no later than 24 hours prior to the commencement of the election. INEC's directive for all stakeholders—political parties, candidates, and the general public—to strictly comply with this updated schedule is crucial for maintaining the integrity and smooth execution of the electoral process.
