INEC registers 131,165 new voters in Edo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo State, successfully registering 131,165 new voters. The commission also processed a significant number of voter updates, including 52,907 transfers to new polling units and 19,565 requests for changes to names, dates of birth, gender, addresses, and professions.

The CVR exercise, which ran from August 2025 to July 2026, saw varying levels of participation across the state's local government areas. Owan West Local Government Area recorded the lowest number of new registrations, with only 3,393 voters added to the electoral roll. In contrast, Ovia North East registered 11,613 new voters, and Oredo Local Government Area added 9,544 new registrants.

The INEC State Office itself emerged as the location with the highest number of new registrations, attracting 11,747 voters. These figures highlight the geographical distribution of voter engagement within Edo State during the registration period. The commission's report details these numbers, providing a snapshot of the electoral landscape's expansion.
