Infant in critical condition after gas tank explosion in San Francisco de Macorís

A one-year-old infant is in critical condition at the Dr. Thelma Rosario Burn Unit in Santiago after suffering severe injuries in a gas tank explosion Sunday night in San Francisco de Macorís. The child sustained burns covering 30% of her body, inhalation injury, and requires mechanical ventilation due to the severity of her condition.

An adolescent, 13 years old, was also affected by the blast and is currently in stable condition with burns covering 7% of his body. Medical specialists are continuously monitoring the infant due to the gravity of her injuries and are providing the necessary treatment to both young patients. Both minors were admitted to the facility in the early morning hours and received immediate attention.

Tragically, an eight-year-old child, who was also brought to the health center, died while receiving medical care. This child had suffered extensive burns covering 70% of his body surface. In addition to the minors, six adults who sustained injuries during the explosion are currently admitted to a specialized health center in Santo Domingo, where they are receiving treatment.

Authorities are actively investigating the origin and circumstances surrounding the explosion to determine its cause. The incident has cast a somber shadow over the community, highlighting the dangers associated with gas tank accidents.
