Infantino's FIFA Leadership Challenged Amid Blackmail and Prize Money Claims

Gianni Infantino's leadership at FIFA faces renewed scrutiny as Prince Ali Hussein of Jordan accuses the world football governing body's president of blackmail and withholding prize money. Prince Ali, a former FIFA presidential candidate, stated that the Jordan Football Association (JFA) has yet to receive its winnings from the FIFA Arab Cup last year.

Adding to the grievances, Prince Ali highlighted issues with Jordanian fans being denied visas to the United States for the World Cup, despite holding valid tickets. He also alleged that the U.S. government, through FIFA, imposed taxes on Jordan's World Cup prize money, further compounding the JFA's financial and logistical concerns.

Prince Ali claims he was verbally informed during the World Cup that supporting Infantino's re-election bid would help resolve the JFA's various issues. "We have been waiting for prize money for the players since December after reaching the final of the Arab Cup in Qatar, which is a FIFA-organized tournament," Prince Ali stated. "It is clear that the real problem is leadership. For months, FIFA has refused to help us with this matter and several other issues, until I was verbally informed during the World Cup that if I supported Infantino, it would greatly help the JFA."

Prince Ali previously competed against Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency in 2015 and finished third in the 2018 election behind Infantino and Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa. These new allegations cast a shadow over Infantino's tenure and raise questions about FIFA's financial dealings and administrative practices.
