Malaysian influencer and entrepreneur Khairul Aming has introduced a new standard operating procedure (SOP) at his restaurant, Rembaying, prioritizing the safety and comfort of babies and children.

Khairul explained that the decision stemmed from several incidents and experiences at the restaurant over its six months of operation. "I implemented this SOP because I want to protect the safety of babies and children after what has happened at Rembaying during the six months we have been operating," he stated.

Despite the financial implications, Khairul emphasized that the SOP is not for profit. He revealed that the restaurant is losing thousands of ringgit because babies are not paying customers, and their presence reduces potential sales from adult patrons. "I'm not making any profit from this SOP. Imagine if there are 30 to 50 babies at Rembaying every day, I'm actually losing sales opportunities from adult customers because babies are not customers who eat. I'm losing thousands of ringgit, but I'm still implementing this SOP because I want to protect the safety of babies and children," he shared.

The SOP also addresses practical concerns, such as the placement of baby strollers. Khairul noted that many parents bring strollers, and their number can impede staff and customer movement. "Before this, we didn't count babies, but the reality is many parents come to Rembaying with baby strollers. As the number increased, the question of where to put the strollers arose. Imagine if strollers are placed by the tables, and at the same time, staff are carrying hot dishes to customers. If there's a spill onto a baby or stroller, safety issues can arise," he explained.

Khairul acknowledged that some might perceive the policy as harsh but stressed the need for clear safety protocols when managing approximately 1,000 customers daily. He also highlighted the importance of fairness, stating that exceptions for one family could lead to questions from others. "If I allow one family an exception, other customers will question why their children need to be counted while another family is not. In the current situation, anything that happens at Rembaying is easily recorded and shared on social media. That's why the SOP needs to be implemented consistently so that all customers receive the same treatment," he said.
