Inmate Sentenced to 3 Years for Aggravated Escape from La Joyita Prison

A 19-year-old inmate in Panama has received a three-year prison sentence for aggravated escape, following a plea agreement validated by the Judge of Guarantees of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama. The decision was made during a multi-request hearing at the System of the Penal Accusatory (SPA) facilities in Plaza Ágora.

In a related case, the same judge legalized the apprehension of another 19-year-old inmate and accepted charges for the crime of evasion. However, no precautionary personal measure was imposed, as the judge deemed it unnecessary given the individual already has a firm sentence of 38 years for other offenses. This inmate was ordered to be immediately transferred to the appropriate penitentiary center to continue serving his existing sentence.

Neither of these decisions was appealed by any of the parties involved. The judicial processes are connected to the significant escapes that occurred on June 1 from the La Joyita Penitentiary Center, located in the Pacora district. Authorities had previously increased the reward for information leading to the capture of the remaining fugitives from these escapes.
