Insecurity: Group Accuses Governor Alia of Abandoning Agatu, Praises Council Chairman for Army Battalion

The Agatu West Peace and Unity Forum (AWPUF) has sharply criticized Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, accusing him of abandoning the Agatu Local Government Area to armed herders. The group disputes claims by Agatu Local Government Council Chairman Ambassador Melvin James Ejeh that the area has been "reclaimed."

Despite its criticism of the state government, AWPUF commended Chairman Ejeh for his efforts in establishing an Army Battalion in the area, which they believe will enhance security and boost community confidence. The forum urged the Benue State Government to implement proactive measures to end the killings and ensure the safe return of displaced persons, stating, "Crediting failed responsibility is not healthy in a true democratic setting."
