Interior Ministry Awards High-Performing Regional Governments in Java-Bali

The Indonesian Ministry of Interior (Kemendagri) has recognized outstanding regional governments from the Java-Bali area in its 2026 Regional Government Achievement Award ceremony, Batch II. Held in Bali, the event celebrated local administrations that have demonstrated excellence and driven innovation for their communities.

Minister of Interior Muhammad Tito Karnavian emphasized that the awards serve as a crucial incentive for regional governments to continuously enhance their performance and introduce new initiatives. This second batch focused on key areas including the implementation of the "3 million homes" program, improving access to and quality of healthcare services, ensuring broader access to education, and promoting sustainable environmental management.

Because from the state budget [and] regional budget it will be impossible to solve the backlog of 30 million people who do not have a house or an inadequate house. The government can only provide stimulus, but the biggest push is from entrepreneurs.

Karnavian highlighted the strategic role of regional governments in addressing the nation's significant housing backlog. He noted that while the central and regional budgets can only provide stimulus, private developers are essential for overcoming the challenge of providing adequate housing for millions. The ministry plans to expand the award categories by involving relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, to provide more focused attention on specific sectors.

Beyond housing, the awards also acknowledge progress in health, education, and environmental cleanliness, assessing how effectively regional governments deliver basic services and improve the quality of life for their citizens. The Minister stressed that the awards are not merely about accolades but serve as a platform to motivate and showcase successful practices implemented across different regions. He congratulated the recipients and encouraged those who did not receive an award to strive harder in the upcoming third batch, underscoring the creativity and commitment many regional leaders show in serving the public.
