Interior Ministry Launches Broad Operation to 'Scrutinize' Tribal Community Membership Lists

Morocco's Ministry of Interior has initiated a wide-ranging operation to update and "scrutinize" the membership lists of tribal communities across the country. This directive, initially implemented in the Casablanca-Settat and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regions, mandates local authorities to communicate with tribal representatives through various administrative channels.

Officials are requiring tribal representatives to meticulously review their current member lists. This process involves verifying that each listed individual meets the necessary legal and administrative conditions for membership. The goal is to ensure that the updated lists accurately reflect the current composition of these communities and adhere to the regulations stipulated by Law No. 62.17 concerning administrative oversight of tribal communities and their property, along with its implementing decree.

Key criteria for verification include actual affiliation with the tribal community, reaching the age of legal majority, and residing within the community's territory. These standards are being emphasized to ensure that only eligible individuals remain on the rolls. The review process will also focus on updating information for members whose circumstances have changed since the previous list compilation.

Central authorities are banking on this operation to eliminate outdated entries and ensure that membership aligns precisely with the criteria outlined in Moroccan law.
