International Drug Smuggling Ring Busted Between Morocco and Spain

Spanish National Police have dismantled an international criminal organization specializing in the trafficking of hashish and marijuana from Morocco. The network, which operated from Spain, was busted with the arrest of 57 individuals across six provinces, with 18 placed in pre-trial detention.

According to official statements, the network was involved in smuggling large quantities of drugs from Morocco, transporting them overland to Madrid. In the capital, members of the organization rented apartments to use as warehouses for storing the illicit substances. Investigations into the group's activities commenced in August 2025 after authorities detected drug smuggling activities coordinated via an encrypted messaging platform.

Further investigation revealed the organization's high level of professionalism and its use of sophisticated methods to conceal its operations and profits. These included fraudulent loans and investments of criminal proceeds into real estate and luxury vehicles. The suspects are also believed to have utilized shell companies and forged documents, such as fake pay stubs and invoices, to legitimize financial transactions.

The police operation spanned six Spanish provinces, with 45 arrests in Madrid, five in Valencia, three in Malaga, two in Guadalajara, and one each in Burgos and Almeria. Between August 2025 and July 2026, authorities conducted 20 raids, seizing 8.5 tons of hashish, over 1.1 tons of marijuana, 47 bottles of gasoline, 19 vehicles, 12 luxury watches, and €50,800 in cash, along with a firearm. The investigation remains open, with authorities not ruling out further arrests or seizures due to the network's extensive reach and complex financial activities.
