Investigation underway after 18-year-old struck by GO train in Toronto’s east end

An 18-year-old has died after being struck by a GO train in Toronto's east end. Police were called to the scene near Monarch Park and Coxwell Subway Station at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday following reports of the incident.

The area where the collision occurred is south of the subway station and adjacent to the GO Transit Lakeshore East train line. Authorities have stated that their investigation is ongoing and have released limited details thus far.

Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency, issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual. A spokesperson for Metrolinx also extended thoughts to the employees and first responders impacted by the event, acknowledging the difficult nature of such incidents and confirming that support is being offered to affected personnel.

While police currently believe the incident to be accidental, they have indicated that an update will be provided if their investigation uncovers any criminality. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatality is continuing.
