IPAC hails Appeal Court verdict restoring ADC, four others

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has lauded the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. IPAC described the appellate court's ruling as a "courageous reaffirmation of constitutional democracy and the rule of law."

The appellate court’s decision is a courageous reaffirmation of constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and the sanctity of Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.

In a statement, IPAC National Publicity Secretary Egbeola Martins emphasized that the verdict has restored confidence in the judiciary and reinforced the constitutional guarantees for political participation and freedom of association in Nigeria. The council views this judgment as proof that democratic institutions can protect constitutional rights, even amidst occasional judicial errors.

IPAC also used the occasion to renew its call for the National Judicial Council to investigate judges whose rulings deviate from constitutional provisions. The council warned that such decisions could potentially trigger constitutional crises and erode public trust in the judiciary.
