IPS digital census for retirees and pensioners begins Monday

The Instituto de Previsión Social will begin a mandatory digital census for all its retirees and pensioners on Sept. 7, 2026. The free registration process will remain open for three months, until Dec. 7.

The IPS said the update fulfills Article 47 of Law No. 430/73, which requires the institution to keep beneficiaries’ information current. It also forms part of the social security provider’s broader effort to digitize and modernize its services.

Beneficiaries will need to register their address, telephone number, email address, marital status, and information about family members or heirs. The IPS says the data will improve communication and notifications, support the timely and secure delivery of benefits, strengthen oversight, and help protect the resources of the Common Retirement and Pension Fund.

The institution is preparing the digital tools needed to make the process simple, quick, and secure. It says it will soon publish instructions, explain the steps for completing the update, and identify the available assistance channels. The IPS also stressed that the digital format does not mean retirees and pensioners will have to manage the process alone. It plans to assist people who have difficulty using digital tools or need help completing the registration.

The IPS reminded beneficiaries that the update is compulsory and will be conducted exclusively online, without charge. It advised them to wait for the official announcement that the system has opened and to rely only on information released through the institute’s official channels.
