Iran accuses Netanyahu of using U.S. to evade ICC arrest warrant

Iran has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of leveraging the United States to circumvent an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant related to alleged war crimes in Gaza. This accusation comes after Netanyahu stated that Washington would take action against the court.

Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, asserted on social media that Israel and the U.S. deem the ICC corrupt because it "dared to pursue the criminal protected by Washington." He added that Netanyahu, facing an ICC arrest warrant, "shamelessly" claimed the U.S. Secretary of State had promised to act against the tribunal.

These remarks follow Netanyahu's assertion that he spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who allegedly reiterated the U.S. commitment to act "firmly" against the ICC. Netanyahu, who rejects the court's jurisdiction and denies the accusations, called the ICC a threat to democratic states. The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his then-defense minister, Yoav Gallant, in November 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the offensive in Gaza.
