Iran and Oman still negotiating Strait of Hormuz accord, says senior Iranian source

Negotiations between Iran and Oman over the strategic Strait of Hormuz remain ongoing, with a senior Iranian source clarifying that no final agreement has been reached.

An agreement with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz has not been finalised. The talks were continuing on the details of an accord.

While Iran's Revolutionary Guards had earlier announced an accord on sharing the waterway and its revenues, the source indicated that talks are continuing on the specific details. The elite force's spokesperson had also linked the opening of the strait to U.S. conditions, including an end to port blockades and sanctions.

The Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global energy transport, has seen shipping severely disrupted since February, leading to increased energy prices. Both Iran and the U.S. have asserted control over the channel, imposing separate blockades.

The Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and the country of Oman ... We have been in negotiations with Oman for about a month, and we have reached results that are acceptable to both sides.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi had expressed hope for a temporary corridor and practical arrangements to restore safe navigation following recent talks. However, U.S. President Donald Trump had previously warned Oman against cooperating with Iran.

In these negotiations, agreements have been reached regarding the share of each country in the waters of the Strait and the share of Iran and Oman in its revenues.

The Revolutionary Guards accused the U.S. of obstructing the negotiations, suggesting this has delayed an agreement. They reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz could be opened within the framework of a broader agreement if the U.S. ceased its obstruction.
