Iran blacklists 45 oil tankers, including South Korean vessel, over Hormuz violations

Iran has placed 45 oil tankers, including one operated by South Korea's Sinokor, on a blacklist for allegedly violating navigation rules in the Strait of Hormuz. The Persian Gulf Maritime Authority announced the decision on its X account, stating that ships on the list could face fines, detention, and cargo confiscation.

This move comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with Washington threatening to impose "super" sanctions on Tehran. The authority did not specify which regulations the tankers violated. However, Reuters suggests it may relate to Iran's requirement for vessels transiting the strait to obtain permits and pay transit fees.

Other flagged vessels are registered in Norway, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Iran warned that ships engaging in transshipment with these vessels would also face sanctions. Those wishing to be removed from the list must submit a justifiable application.

The situation is further complicated by U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated claims that "Hormuz is American territory." U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright recently highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz facilitates the daily transport of 8 million barrels of oil, largely due to the U.S. Navy's presence.
