Iran captain laments logistical issues that 'undermine FIFA's message'

Mehdi Taremi, captain of the Iranian national football team, has voiced strong criticism regarding the logistical and visa challenges encountered by various teams and arbitral bodies upon their arrival in the United States for the World Cup. Taremi believes these issues detract from FIFA's stated message of peace.

"Not only Iran has been impacted, but the arbitral body as well. In any tournament, there is tension. Of course, it's not the same experience and it's not something that happens only to us; many countries have had visa problems," Taremi stated during a press conference in Inglewood, California, ahead of Iran's debut match against New Zealand.

The Iranian team itself experienced visa restrictions, necessitating their base in Tijuana, Mexico, during the tournament. Taremi expressed hope that such logistical hurdles could be improved in future international competitions, suggesting a better environment could have been provided.

Despite the challenges, the Iranian squad remains focused on representing their people through football. Taremi emphasized the team's desire to remain apolitical, stating, "We are here to play football, which can unite all groups. We love our people, whether they are inside or outside of Iran." The team aims to bring joy and unity to the Iranian populace through their performance in the tournament.
