Iran claims it intercepted two tankers trying to cross Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced Friday that they intercepted two oil tankers attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz, alleging U.S. air support for the vessels.

According to the Revolutionary Guard's statement, the oil tankers failed to adhere to directives and tried to pass through the strait via an alternative corridor backed by the United States. The Guard claims they stopped two tankers, while four others quickly altered their course and returned to their previous positions.

Iran has asserted control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy trade route, since the outset of its conflict with the U.S. The country requires ships transiting the strait to obtain prior permission and pay fees.

This incident occurred a day after the Revolutionary Guard reported that two oil tankers reversed course while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, following a fire on one of the vessels.
