Iran claims US troops killed and drones destroyed in Kuwait base attack

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its forces struck the headquarters and accommodation facilities of US commanders at Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base with missiles and drones. It claimed that US personnel died and that several drones were destroyed.

The IRGC said the attack set fire to a drone hangar and launch runway. It claimed the drones had been used in attacks against Iran. The group also said the operation took place at the same time as attacks on US bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Erbil.

Iran described the strikes as retaliation for a US attack on a residential home in Sirik, southern Iran. The IRGC said four people, including a child, died in that attack and nearly 70 people were wounded.

In a statement addressed to Kuwait’s people, the IRGC said its target was the US military presence in Kuwait, not Kuwaiti citizens, and urged the withdrawal of US forces from the country.

US Central Command announced late Tuesday that it had launched attacks against IRGC targets in Iran. Iranian media subsequently reported explosions on Qeshm Island and in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar and Konarak.
