Iran launches retaliatory drone strike on U.S. military base in Kuwait

Iran's military launched a retaliatory drone strike against U.S. military facilities in Kuwait on Friday, escalating tensions between the two nations. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the attack as the "27th phase of Operation Saegheh," a direct response to recent U.S. strikes on Iran.

The IRGC specifically targeted the Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, identifying it as a key hub for U.S. air operations and a vital logistics center for American forces. They claimed the base housed fighter jet shelters, satellite communication systems, and equipment storage facilities. The IRGC asserted that their repeated operations, alongside Iranian forces, have made it difficult for the U.S. to intercept Iranian drones and missiles, even with advanced air defense systems.

"Therefore, the enemy is forced to impose strict censorship to prevent reports of damage, deaths, and injuries from being published," the IRGC alleged, suggesting the U.S. is attempting to control the narrative surrounding the conflict.

Earlier, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf condemned the U.S. strikes on Qeshm Island, calling them a continuation of attacks in Minab and Lamerd that allegedly targeted civilians. The recent exchange of fire shatters a period of relative calm, during which both sides had reportedly been attempting to revive diplomatic efforts to avoid a larger conflict.
