Iran Offers Aid to Lebanon Against Israeli Attacks, Cites Ceasefire Importance

Iran has issued a strong warning, declaring its willingness to aid Lebanon in resisting what it termed Israel's "illegal aggression." The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, stressed that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an inseparable component of any lasting agreement to end the wider conflict involving the U.S.

This declaration comes in the wake of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordering military airstrikes on Beirut. These actions represent a significant escalation, occurring despite an ongoing ceasefire in Lebanon. The situation highlights the volatile nature of the region, where tensions have been simmering since February.

Since February, the Middle East has experienced heightened tensions, marked by retaliatory attacks between Iran, Israel, and U.S. allies in the Gulf region. These exchanges included Iran's actions targeting Israel and its allies, as well as its decision to close the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan, came into effect on April 8, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent resolution.

Despite the April ceasefire, both sides have continued to exchange proposals in an effort to revive direct negotiations and bring the conflict to a definitive end.
