Iran rejects Trump's Hormuz claims, says it cannot be conquered by tweet or carrier

Iran has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that he might soon declare the Strait of Hormuz American territory after defeating Iran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry's deputy for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated on X that Hormuz cannot be conquered with a tweet, aircraft carrier, order, or campaign speech.

The Strait of Hormuz cannot be conquered with a tweet or an aircraft carrier, nor by issuing an order or making an election speech.

Gharibabadi asserted that Iran is not intimidated by threats or displays of force. He emphasized that the strait "has been, is, and will remain Iranian." He further warned that Hormuz "will only be closed and opened under the orders of Iran." Gharibabadi added that Iran will continue to impose blockades as long as the U.S. does not accept its "defeat" and cease making "delusional claims."

The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Iran and Oman, is a vital waterway for global oil and gas transport. It has become a major source of tension between Washington and Tehran amid escalating military activity in the region. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are reportedly in discussions regarding the shared management of the strait and the establishment of a new shipping route, which Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi suggested could conclude soon. Araghchi clarified that these talks with Oman are separate from stalled negotiations with the U.S., though mediating countries like Qatar and Pakistan are facilitating message exchanges.
