Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Remains Out of Sight Amid Health Crisis Rumors

Speculation is mounting over the health and whereabouts of Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's newly appointed supreme leader. He has not been seen publicly or held any meetings with government officials since the alleged attacks that resulted in the death of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. This absence has fueled rumors of a critical health condition.

According to IranWire, citing two anonymous sources familiar with government developments, there is significant concern within the regime regarding the new leader's health. The report suggests that information circulating at the highest levels of Iranian leadership indicates his condition is "extremely critical." One source reportedly stated, "We would not be surprised to soon hear news that he 'martyred.'"

Further fueling the rumors, opposition media report that Mojtaba Khamenei may have been seriously injured and possibly disfigured in the attack that killed his father. Since then, he is said to be in an undisclosed location, limiting his movements and communicating with top officials through intermediaries to avoid detection. His public appearances have been replaced by written statements attributed to him by state media.

Adding to the uncertainty, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged in a state television interview that communication with the new supreme leader is "very difficult." Reports from Iran International suggest Pezeshkian met briefly with an individual presented as Khamenei in a secret, undisclosed location in Tehran. The circumstances of the meeting, including the use of separate vehicles and the inability to see each other clearly, have led Pezeshkian to express doubts about the individual's true identity, recognizing only his voice.
