Iran tells US to ‘accept defeat’ amid Strait of Hormuz blockade

Iran has issued a defiant message to the United States, urging Washington to "accept defeat" as the conflict continues and warning that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Tehran's command. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that Iran will continue to enforce the blockade unless the U.S. acknowledges the reality of defeat.

The conflict has had a notable impact on global energy markets, with U.S. gasoline prices increasing by 29% over the past year. President Donald Trump has acknowledged the rising costs, telling Americans at a rally that paying slightly more for gasoline is a necessary price to prevent what he described as a "very evil country" from obtaining nuclear weapons.

This strait will be opened and closed only under Iran’s command, and so long as you do not accept the reality of defeat and stop indulging in fantasies, Iran will continue to enforce the blockade.

Efforts to de-escalate the situation and resume oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which handles a significant portion of the world's oil supply, remain stalled. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi indicated that Tehran has not yet decided on resuming negotiations with Washington and reiterated that the U.S. must meet Iran's conditions before shipping can resume.

Despite Iran's strong rhetoric, the economic toll is also evident within the country. President Masoud Pezeshkian attributed high inflation partly to a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and sanctions on oil exports. Meanwhile, U.S. officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have pledged to inflict further financial damage on Iran, with additional measures reportedly forthcoming.
