Iran warns of a 'more painful response' if the US launches further attacks

Iran has warned the United States that any further attack will bring a response that is faster, more intense and more painful. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator in talks aimed at ending the war, issued the warning in a speech carried by Iranian state media.

“The Americans must have understood that the era of proportionate responses has come to an end,” Ghalibaf said. “Any aggression against Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, more intense and more painful response.”

His remarks followed Tehran’s targeting of American warships in the latest round of clashes. The exchanges began with US raids last week, as the six-month war between the two countries remained deadlocked.

Iran has maintained its control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, while Washington continues a counter-blockade of Iranian ports. The United States is also seeking to pressure Iran’s economy through sanctions on entities with financial links to the country, in an effort to force Tehran into submission.
