Iranian President Denies Resignation Rumors Amid US Conflict Tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian firmly denied on Tuesday any intention to resign, pushing back against rumors circulating from opposition media. "If I were going to resign, I would announce it publicly. I will not resign, and I will continue the struggle," Pezeshkian stated in an address broadcast by the IRNA news agency.

These statements directly countered reports suggesting he had repeatedly offered his resignation to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Pezeshkian also sought to quell speculation about disagreements between his administration, Khamenei, and the Iranian armed forces. He emphasized unity, saying, "Everyone knows that if any disagreement arises, the armed forces would stand with Khamenei."

The president's remarks come as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high. An open military conflict erupted in February following a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran, which Tehran answered with missile and drone attacks on Gulf states hosting US military bases. Although a ceasefire was agreed upon in April and a peace memorandum signed in June, brokered by Pakistan, the truce collapsed last month after renewed reciprocal strikes. US President Donald Trump later halted airstrikes amid reports of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
