IsraAID deploys emergency team to Nepal after deadly floods, landslides

Israel's humanitarian aid agency, IsraAID, is deploying an emergency response team to Nepal to assist with disaster relief efforts after recent catastrophic flooding and landslides. The team is scheduled to arrive and begin their mission focusing on urgent relief distributions and providing crucial mental health support and protection for affected communities.

Yotam Polizer, IsraAID CEO, expressed deep concern over the devastation, stating, “We are devastated to see the scenes unfolding in Nepal, as entire communities have been destroyed by flash flooding and landslides. Our thoughts are with everyone affected. We will do everything we can to bring urgent support where it is needed most.”

Alongside IsraAID, NATAN Worldwide Disaster Relief is also dispatching an emergency team. NATAN volunteers, including medical and mental health professionals, will provide care to survivors and work to strengthen local healthcare systems. Gil Reines, Chair of NATAN’s Executive Board, emphasized their commitment: "Precisely at a community's moment of crisis, we are there to extend a hand, stand behind them, and walk alongside them on the path toward recovery.”

In a separate effort, Harel Insurance Company is sending a search and rescue team to Nepal. This team will focus on locating a missing Israeli policyholder in a remote mountainous region affected by the flooding. The policyholder, hiking with a group of foreign tourists, lost communication after severe mudslides struck the area. The Harel team will search for both the policyholder and his hiking companions.

The disaster has claimed at least 362 lives, with nearly 1,000 people still missing. Both Nepal and China have warned of new risks of flooding as two border lakes threaten to burst. The catastrophic flood is believed to have been caused by a glacier collapse that sent a massive amount of debris into river systems.
