Israel Army Says Established Gaza-Style 'Yellow Line' in Lebanon

The Israeli military has declared the establishment of a "Yellow Line" in southern Lebanon, a measure mirroring the demarcation used to separate Israeli forces from Hamas-controlled areas in Gaza. This move signals a hardening of Israeli security posture along its northern border amidst ongoing tensions.

According to the military's statement, troops identified "terrorists who violated the ceasefire understandings and approached the forces from north of the Yellow Line in a manner that posed an immediate threat." In response, Israeli forces "attacked the terrorists in several areas." The military further reported eliminating a "terrorist cell operating in proximity to IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon, in the area of the forward defence line," referring to the newly established Yellow Line. Additionally, an underground shaft and Hezbollah operatives entering it were struck.

This development occurs despite a recently agreed-upon 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, intended to facilitate negotiations to end the six-week conflict. Hezbollah has stated it is maintaining a "finger on the trigger" should Israel violate the truce.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that Israel has "not yet finished the job" against Hezbollah, vowing to continue efforts to "dismantle" the group. This stance suggests that the "Yellow Line" and subsequent military actions may indicate a continued Israeli commitment to confronting Hezbollah, even within the framework of a ceasefire. The situation remains tense, with both sides expressing determination and skepticism regarding the cessation of hostilities.
