Israel launches incursions into southern Syria, state agency reports

Israeli forces carried out incursions into Syria's southern provinces of Daraa and Quneitra on Tuesday, according to Syria's state news agency SANA. In Daraa, Israeli troops entered the village of Mariya in the Yarmouk Basin area, searching several civilian homes before leaving without making arrests. Simultaneously, an Israeli force in Quneitra established a temporary checkpoint near the Jbata al-Khashab quarries, stopping and searching civilians before withdrawing.

These incursions are part of a pattern of recurring Israeli actions in southern Syria over recent months. SANA reported that since Monday, the Israeli army has also been conducting earthmoving operations and reopening an old dirt road north of Wadi al-Raqad, using a bulldozer, a tank, and a pickup truck.

The Israeli military activity in the region has intensified since December 2024, following Israel's declaration of the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and its subsequent seizure of control over the Syrian buffer zone.
