Israel reports killing high-ranking Hamas member in Jenin

The Israeli military and the Shin Bet security service announced Friday evening that they had killed a high-ranking Hamas member in the West Bank city of Jenin. The military stated that the individual was involved in financing and executing attacks against Israeli civilians and was responsible for directing the Islamist militant group's operations within the Jenin refugee camp.

Weapons were reportedly found in the car of the deceased. The Israeli military initially provided no information on the identities of two other individuals killed alongside the Hamas member. The report comes after a large-scale Israeli military operation in Jenin and two other West Bank refugee camps last year, which resulted in numerous Palestinian deaths, displacement, and significant damage, reportedly dismantling a terrorist network.

The situation in the occupied West Bank has significantly deteriorated since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli military operations, clashes, and Palestinian attacks since that date. Additionally, violence by radical Israeli settlers against Palestinians has intensified.
