Israeli drone attack injures two in southern Lebanon amid intensified shelling

An Israeli drone strike on the Al Aqida neighborhood in Nabatieh al Fawqa, southern Lebanon, injured at least two people on Saturday. The Lebanese National News Agency reported the missile attack but provided no further details on the casualties.

The incident occurred as the Israeli military intensified its artillery bombardments across southern Lebanon. The National News Agency described the situation in towns and cities along the 'yellow line', the zone occupied by Israeli troops, as tense, following massive Israeli explosions. Reports also indicated that Israeli forces used heavy machine guns and deployed armored patrols, demolishing and burning several houses in the Bint Jbeil district.

Furthermore, an Israeli patrol boat reportedly fired on fishing boats off the coast of Mansouri, near Al Bayada, attempting to prevent them from fishing. This escalation has raised concerns among the Lebanese government and international organizations, particularly after a significant explosion near the Beaufort Castle on Friday.

Jean Arnault, the interim UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, voiced deep concern over the "magnitude of the bombings and demolitions." He highlighted the devastating impact on civilian infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the collective memory of local communities. Arnault urged an end to the "escalation in the pace of destruction" while emphasizing that diplomatic channels remain open to address pending issues. Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to hold another round of U.S.-led talks in Rome from August 4-6 to advance security arrangements, consolidate Israeli troop withdrawal, and facilitate the Lebanese army's deployment.
