Istanbul braces for thunderstorms on Thursday as temperatures fluctuate

Istanbul is bracing for a return of rain and thunderstorms, with forecasters predicting significant downpours on Thursday, July 9. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) released its weekly weather report, indicating that between 5 to 12 kilograms of rain per square meter are expected that day. The temperature is also forecast to decrease, reaching a high of 27°C.

Leading up to Thursday, the megacity is expected to enjoy mostly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C during the day on Tuesday, July 7. Winds will be moderate, blowing at speeds of 10 to 30 kilometers per hour, and humidity levels will range between 35% and 70%. Sea temperatures are expected to be around 24°C.

Following the anticipated rainfall on Thursday, the weather is set to clear up by Friday, with skies becoming partly cloudy and clear again. The weekend will see a gradual increase in temperatures, climbing to a high of 32°C on Saturday and reaching up to 33°C on Sunday.

This shift in weather patterns brings a brief respite from the summer heat before temperatures climb again, with a specific warning for thunderstorms on Thursday.
