Istanbul Dams Reach Critical Lows, İSKİ Reports 53.04% Occupancy

Istanbul's water supply is facing a concerning decline, with the average dam occupancy rate falling to 53.04% as of August 6, 2026, according to the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ). This marks a significant drop, particularly impacting crucial water sources for the city's large population. The Terkos Dam, a vital water provider for the European side of Istanbul, has fallen below the 50% threshold, currently standing at 44.59%. Similarly, the Büyükçekmece Dam, another major source, has seen its occupancy rate decrease to 47.76%. İSKİ has provided a detailed breakdown of water levels across all its major reservoirs: Ömerli Dam at 75.73%, Darlık Dam at 71.16%, Elmalı Dam at 85%, Terkos Dam at 44.59%, Alibey Dam at 52.83%, Büyükçekmece Dam at 47.76%, Sazlıdere Dam at 30.74%, Istrancalar Dam at 32.84%, Kazandere Dam at 26.78%, and Pabuçdere Dam at 21.8%. The low levels raise concerns about potential water shortages during the summer months.
