Istanbul's cultural calendar packed with events this week

Istanbul is set to immerse art lovers in a vibrant week of cultural experiences, offering a diverse program of concerts, exhibitions, and theater performances. The city's stages will come alive with a rich selection of plays, including "Lady Macbeth" at Bakırköy Butik Sahne on August 12. "The Last Bookseller of Gaza" will be performed at Taksim İstiklal Sahne on August 11 and 14, while "Crime and Punishment" takes the stage at the same venue tomorrow.

"Dokuzuncu Hariciye Koğuşu" is also scheduled for performance at Bakırköy Aydem Sahne tomorrow. Music enthusiasts can look forward to the "Türk Telekom Prime AKM Summer Concerts" series, featuring Ilayda Hatipoğlu Quintet on August 12 and the Fuji group, known for blending contemporary jazz with diverse musical influences, on August 15 at AKM Çok Amaçlı Salon.

Further musical offerings include the Arkadaş group performing as part of the "City Sounds" series on August 12, and Istanbul-based band The Flabbies on August 14 at Zorlu PSM Vestel Amfi. The historic Şerefiye Cistern, managed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture AŞ, will host "Sounds from the Depths" concerts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout August.

Visual arts are equally prominent, with Songül Acer's "Rikkat" exhibition, a contemporary take on traditional İznik tile art, running until August 15 at the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Mehmet Çebi's "Silent Elegance" exhibition, featuring contemporary calligraphy and prayer beads, is free to visit at Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center until August 29.

Other exhibitions include the "Colors of the Earth" photography exhibition at Bağımsız Sanat Vakfı until August 30, Doç. Dr. Aras Neftçi's "Mimar Sinan's Istanbul" photography exhibition at AK Parti Istanbul Provincial Directorate throughout August, "The Coast of the Sun" at Kalyon Kültür until September 30, "The Habits" at Decollage Art Space until August 30, and Yoko Ono's "Internal Voice and Internal Structure" at Sakıp Sabancı Museum until December 27.
