Istanbul: Worker critically injured after cargo elevator falls 4 stories

A textile worker in Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa district sustained critical injuries after a cargo elevator he was using fell four stories. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning at a textile firm located on Hekimsuyu Street in Yenimahalle Mahallesi.

The 25-year-old worker, identified as Ahmet B., entered the cargo elevator on the 4th floor. For reasons yet to be determined, the elevator suddenly dropped to the ground with a loud noise. Ahmet B. suffered severe injuries to his head and various parts of his body.

Emergency services, including health, police, and fire departments, were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics provided initial treatment before transporting the injured worker to a hospital. Police have taken the workplace owner into custody as part of their investigation.

Security camera footage from the workplace captured the dramatic moment of the elevator's fall. The video shows the worker inside the elevator as it descends rapidly from the fourth floor, followed by colleagues rushing to his aid. Investigators examined the fallen elevator and the surrounding area.
