ISWAP senior finance chief surrenders to soldiers in Borno

Nigerian troops have achieved a significant operational success with the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative in Borno State. The operative, identified as the Chief Finance Operative for the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, laid down his arms along with two male children.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative, underscoring the sustained impact of ongoing kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across the North East.

The surrender occurred on July 25, 2026, near the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. Military officials stated that this development underscores the effectiveness of ongoing kinetic and intelligence-driven operations against insurgency in the North East. The operative was reportedly responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics.

Items recovered from the surrendered operative include an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 in cash. The Nigerian Army confirmed that the individual is currently undergoing interrogation to gather actionable intelligence that will aid ongoing operations and target remaining terrorist elements.

Preliminary profiling indicates that the terrorist served as the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics. He surrendered alongside two male children.

This capture is seen as a major setback for ISWAP, indicating a weakening command structure and operational capability due to sustained military pressure. The surrender follows a recent wave of defections, with approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily surrendering to troops in recent days, suggesting growing disillusionment within the group's ranks.
