Italian actress Ornella Muti plans to seek Russian citizenship

Italian actress Ornella Muti and her daughter, singer Naike Rivelli, intend to apply for Russian citizenship, according to Rivelli. She stated that they wish to obtain Russian passports "to feel truly at home."

Rivelli explained their decision stems from having "Russian roots" and a desire not to renounce their origins, family, and friends. Ornella Muti, known for her roles in films like "The Taming of the Shrew," has frequently visited Russia.

Her past travels to Russia have not been without consequence. In 2010, Muti reportedly faced a prison sentence after attending a charity event in St. Petersburg with Vladimir Putin instead of appearing in a theater performance in Pordenone, Italy. The theater subsequently sued her.

This is not the first time Muti's intention to seek Russian citizenship has been reported. Previous announcements indicated she also owns property in Russia. The actress's connection to Russia appears to be deepening with this citizenship bid.
