Kyrgyzstan wins five medals at International Mathematical Olympiad

Kyrgyz schoolchildren have achieved significant success at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Shanghai from July 10 to 21. The nation's team brought home five medals: three silver and two bronze, with one participant also earning an honorary diploma.

The prestigious competition saw 666 students from 117 countries vie for top honors. The Kyrgyz team's journey to Shanghai was determined by their performance in the fourth stage of the National Mathematical Olympiad.

Kyrgyzstan took 35th place at in the Olympiad, making it among the top 40 teams in the world for the third consecutive year.

Silver medals were awarded to 8th-graders Ariet Akimov, Arlan Sayat, and 10th-grader Yan Bobrus, all from Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school. Bronze medals went to 10th-grader Sultan Musakhodjaev of the Maarif Educational Complex and 11th-grader Timur Akeneev from Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school. Bekten Abduvaliev, an 8th-grader at Silk Road Education ISK school, received an honorary diploma.

This achievement places Kyrgyzstan at 35th in the world rankings, a position within the top 40 teams for the third year running. Since first participating in the IMO in 1993, Kyrgyzstan has amassed a total of 27 medals. Notably, 14 of these awards, including one gold, eight silver, and five bronze, have been won in the last three years, highlighting a recent surge in the country's mathematical talent.
