Italian Oil Company Eni to Explore Uruguayan Field with YPF Subsidiary

Italian energy giant Eni has announced a significant expansion of its South American operations, agreeing to explore an offshore oil field in Uruguay. The company will partner with MIWEN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Argentina's state-owned energy firm YPF, following approval from Uruguayan authorities.

The agreement designates Eni as a 50% operator of the OFF-5 area, located in Uruguayan waters. MIWEN will hold the remaining 50% stake. This offshore block is currently in its initial exploration phase, with studies underway to assess its petroleum potential. Eni plans to deploy its advanced technologies to expedite the analysis of the area's resources.

Eni views this venture as a strategic move that not only reinforces its existing collaboration with YPF on the 'Argentina LNG' project but also solidifies its footprint in the South American energy market. The partnership leverages the combined expertise and resources of both companies to unlock the potential of the Uruguayan offshore basin.
