Jaiswal, Fernando Sanctioned by ICC for On-Field Incident in Colombo Test

Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando have been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following an on-field altercation during the second Test match in Colombo. The incident led to both players being penalized for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

The ICC announced on Monday that both Jaiswal and Fernando were found guilty of violating Article 2.12, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact with another player during an international match. As a consequence, each player was fined 25% of their respective match fees and received one demerit point. Neither player had any prior offenses within the preceding 24 months.

The confrontation took place in the 17th over of India's innings, shortly after Fernando had taken Jaiswal's wicket. Reports indicate that Jaiswal approached the bowler, and after an exchange of words, Fernando moved his head towards Jaiswal. Jaiswal then leaned forward, resulting in contact between their heads.

Both players acknowledged their breaches of the code of conduct and accepted the sanctions proposed by Andy Pycroft, a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. This acceptance means that formal hearings were not required to resolve the matter.
