Jakarta celebrates 81st Independence Day, Governor vows inclusive development

Jakarta marked its 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence with a solemn ceremony at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, led by Governor Pramono Anung. Addressing civil servants, regional leaders, and stakeholders, the Governor stressed that independence is not merely a legacy to be remembered but a trust that must be actively fulfilled through dedicated work for the community, nation, and country.

The province's economic resilience was highlighted, with a notable growth of 5.52% in the second quarter of 2026, contributing 16.32% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Inflation has been kept under control at 2.5%. This strong economic performance serves as a foundation for Jakarta's ambitious goal of ranking among the top 50 global cities by 2030.

Governor Anung underscored the importance of ensuring that the benefits of development are distributed equitably across the population. He stated that Jakarta's development agenda is geared towards fostering economic growth, expanding employment opportunities, reducing inequality, and ensuring no resident is left behind. This commitment reflects a focus on inclusive progress.

In terms of human development, Jakarta boasts the highest Human Development Index (HDI) nationally at 85.05 in 2025. The provincial government is actively expanding access to education and improving welfare through programs like Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) Plus and Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU). Efforts also include diploma regularization, job creation programs, and support for community schools, emphasizing that human progress is the cornerstone of Jakarta's advancement.

Furthermore, the administration is bolstering public services, healthcare, and connectivity. This includes modernizing transportation, with projects like the LRT Jakarta, MRT Phase 2, and the Dukuh Atas Pedestrian Deck. Plans are also in motion for a new hospital and improved sea transportation to the Thousand Islands, managed by Transjakarta starting in 2027. Urban planning continues, including the removal of monorail pylons and enhanced public transport integration around the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area. Environmental initiatives, such as waste sorting movements, are also being promoted.
