Jakarta Claims Significant Reduction in Slum Areas, No 'Severely Slum' Zones Remain

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has announced a notable achievement in its urban renewal efforts, reporting a substantial decrease in the number of slum-designated neighborhood units (RWs) across the capital. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of slum RWs has fallen from 445 in 2017 to 211. This reduction is particularly encouraging as the provincial government asserts that none of these remaining areas are classified as 'severely slum.'

Kelik Indriyanto, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Housing and Settlement Area Agency (DPRKP), expressed gratitude for this progress, highlighting that the remaining slum areas are now categorized as light, very light, or moderate. This indicates a positive trend and a more manageable scope for future interventions. The agency has set an ambitious target to resolve 50 slum RWs in the coming year, demonstrating a continued commitment to improving living conditions for all Jakartans.
