Jakarta Governor Forms Team to Investigate School Building Conditions

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has established a dedicated investigation and inventory team to meticulously examine the condition of school buildings throughout the DKI Jakarta province. This proactive measure is intended to prevent future incidents of structural damage, such as the one recently observed at SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09.

"I have requested an investigation team, and simultaneously an inventory team, for the future development of several existing buildings," stated Pramono during a site visit to SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 in South Jakarta. The team's mandate includes directly assessing the physical state of school buildings and evaluating their construction preparedness to ensure similar problems do not arise again.

Pramono emphasized that the team's focus will be on the "real condition" of the structures. He noted that the framework of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09, built in 2011, appeared to have been improperly prepared during its initial construction. He explicitly stated that the Jakarta Education Agency would not be involved in the oversight team, as its role is that of a facility user, not the technical construction authority.

The team's task is to see the real condition. As I saw earlier, it is clear that the framework was not properly prepared when it was built in 2011.

Responsibility for the physical construction of schools does not fall under the purview of the Education Agency. Therefore, technical supervision and support will be managed by relevant agencies, specifically the Department of Spatial Planning and Land Use (Citata) and the Department of Public Works (Bina Marga) of DKI Jakarta. This ensures that supervision is conducted by entities possessing the necessary expertise.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had planned renovations for 22 school buildings. However, due to budget constraints, these renovations are being phased. Eleven schools will undergo rehabilitation in 2026, with the remaining eleven scheduled for 2027. SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09, which gained attention on social media for its damage, is among the prioritized schools for repair. Governor Pramono has instructed that repairs for the four most severely damaged schools commence no later than September.
