Jakarta Governor Orders Demolition of Viral 'Love-Hate' Pedestrian Bridge

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ordered the demolition of an old pedestrian bridge in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta. The structure, located on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, had gained viral attention on social media under the moniker "Love-Hate Relationship" JPO.

Governor Anung made the decision after inspecting the bridge along with officials from the Jakarta Public Works Agency, South Jakarta Mayor's Office, Transportation Agency, and Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency. He stated that the bridge, built by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, is older and has a different design compared to a newer, adjacent pedestrian bridge associated with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KAI.

He noted that both bridges serve the same function of facilitating public crossings and supporting access to transportation facilities, including the LRT.

Anung criticized past public facility development policies, suggesting they were often driven by individual leaders' egos without proper communication. "But after I saw it myself, this shows that in the past, when making policies, as I often say, the leader's ego was not communicated well. So actually, both of these have the exact same function," he remarked. The older bridge will be dismantled, while the newer one will be maintained and its facilities improved.
