Mount Bromo closed to tourists as wildfire intensifies

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority has completely closed Mount Bromo to tourists, effective Saturday evening, to facilitate ongoing firefighting efforts. The decision comes as a wildfire in the Bromo Caldera area continues to spread, prompting the suspension of all visits via the park's five entry points.

To ensure the effectiveness of firefighting efforts, tourist visits to Bromo via all entry points have been suspended.

Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, head of the TNBTS, stated that the closure is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of firefighting operations. The affected entry points are Cemorolawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency. The closure also prioritizes the safety and security of all potential visitors.

Tourists who have already purchased tickets for dates affected by the closure will be accommodated with options to reschedule their visits or receive a full refund. The TNBTS Authority has provided a form on its online booking website for visitors to process these requests. Service providers operating within the national park are strongly urged to temporarily halt all activities to ensure collective safety.

Recent reports indicate that the wildfire has already consumed approximately 10 hectares of land. Firefighters are battling active hotspots amidst dry conditions and strong winds, with the fire reportedly spreading towards Mount Kursi within the national park. The duration of the closure remains undetermined, with further notice to be provided.
