Jakarta legislator backs prioritizing LRT to Dukuh Atas over JIS line

A Jakarta legislator has backed the provincial government's decision to prioritize the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta route connecting Manggarai to Dukuh Atas. This move takes precedence over extending the line to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

M. Taufik Zoelkifli, a member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD, stated that proceeding with the Dukuh Atas route is the most realistic option currently, especially given the central government's reduction in revenue sharing funds. "If it's to Dukuh Atas, it's just continuing from Manggarai; the budget is likely more feasible for now," Zoelkifli told Republika on Tuesday.

He acknowledged that both the Dukuh Atas and JIS extensions are important. However, he noted that they cannot be undertaken simultaneously, particularly as the northern Jakarta route to JIS would require substantial funding. Zoelkifli, who also chairs the PKS faction in the DPRD, emphasized that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government must remain committed to eventually extending the LRT to the northern region, as public transportation services there are still relatively limited compared to other areas. "After going to Dukuh Atas, it must continue to the north," he urged.

Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B project is nearing completion. He targets the rail-based transportation service, which will connect Kelapa Gading to Manggarai, to be operational by August 2026. "This monorail (LRT Jakarta) will hopefully be inaugurated in August. The monorail is 12.5 kilometers long, with 11 stations from Velodrome (Pegangsaan Dua) to Manggarai," Pramono stated.
